How Big Is Amsterdam Airport?
Founded in the 12th century, Amsterdam in the Netherlands attracts many visitors to its quaint Dutch houses and picturesque canals. To get around the city, you can take trams, ferries, bicycles and buses. To get into it, you can take buses and trains, or arrive by plane via the Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.
Passengers
According to Airports Council International, Amsterdam Airport handled 47.4 million passengers in 2008 which ranked it number 14 in the world in terms of passenger traffic.
Movements
The same Council also reports that Amsterdam handled over 446,000 takeoffs and landings which ranked 17th in the world.
Facilities
The airport has one passenger terminal, seven cargo terminals and 196 aircraft stands. It also has six runways and is open 24 hours a day.
Terminal
The passenger terminal boasts 311 check in desks, 105 gates and 10 airport hotels. Parking exists for 10,800 long-term and 5,200 short term travelers.
Cargo
Cargo capacity is 1.8 million tons with warehouse space exceeding 3.2 million square feet. There are 20,747 freighter docks.
