Hotel du Cygne
The Hotel du Cygne is a small, charming hotel of fewer than 30 rooms in the heart of one of Paris' best neighborhoods, the Marais. Located just behind Beaubourg, Paris' contemporary museum, afternoons can easily be spent at the cafes across the Niki St. Phalle water sculptures. The best thing about this hotel is the fabulous skylight located in the breakfast room.
Wows and Woes
This hotel is really cheap for its central location and has a terrific personal touch from the owner, Isabelle, and her friendly staff.
The amenities are quite basic. There is no room service and some rooms have shared bathrooms in the hallways.
Insider Tips
The suite, for the rate of 150 Euros a night as of September 2009, is worth it for a small family. The rustic charm of the decor and the additional living room will make you think you're at home.
Author's Most Memorable Moment
Paris can be quite depressing when it's raining half the year, especially if you're stuck walking outside. I came down from my room, dreading the wet, damp day and heard Chopin playing in the food room. I sat down and ordered a mimosa as I watched and listened to the raindrops hit the glass ceiling of the room. For once, I found the rain in Paris absolutely enjoyable.
Bottom Line
You can't beat the location or price of this hotel, or the friendly and home-away-from-home feel.
