Facts About Famous People From Europe

A trip to Europe can lead you to viewing places where famous people were born, lived and died. Here are a few interesting facts on some of the people you might see.
William Wallace/Scotland

The inspiration for "Braveheart's" true life exploits can be found in Lanark Stirling, and at a monument in Robroyston.

Albert Einstein/Germany and Switzerland

Two of Einstein's homes have been turned into museums and are open to the public. One is located in Caput, near Potsdam, Germany, while 49 Kramgasse in Bern, Switzerland is the other.

Leonardo Da Vinci/Italy and France

His "Last Supper" hangs in Milan's Santa Maria delle Grazie, and the "Mona Lisa" at the Louvre in Paris. Da Vinci himself is buried at France's Chateau d' Amboise.

The Beatles/England and Germany

In Liverpool, many of the Fab Four's homes, early concert venues and schools still exist. London's Abbey Road attracts many, as does Hamburg, Germany's Indra Club.

Marie Antionette/Austria and France

Marie Antionette was born at the Hofburg in Vienna. In France, her favorite place was the Chateau de Saint-Cloud; she is buried at St Denis Basilica.

Hans Christian Anderson/Denmark

Anderson, the author of beloved stories like the Ugly Duckling and The Little Mermaid, lived in Denmark his whole life. His boyhood home is in Odensve, and the famous Little Mermaid statue is in Copenhagen's harbor.
