Vernazza is one of five fishing villages along the northern coast of Italy, what is commonly known as the Italian Riveria. The five fishing villages make up the Le Cinque Terre. The villages cling perilously to the steep rocky coast creating magnificent terraces for which it receives its name. There is hiking between the villages as well as train service and boat service. Le Cinque Terre is a national park, with entrance fees that are charged to hike between the villages. A $7 park card is good for one day and covers trails, buses, and museums within the park. The trains and boats are spate, but run on a regular schedule between the five villages. The best of the five villages is Vernazza, with a natural harbor and ruined castle. There is very little beach
, but there are sunning rocks and many outdoor restaurants. There are very few hotels in Vernazza, however, there are Bed and Breakfasts and Guesthouses. The bigger hotels are located in the larger cities to the north and south of the Le Cinque Terre. There are about nine hostels around Vernazza in the Le Cinque Terra. The only hostel in Vernazza is the Rooms Elisabetta. The villages are small and there is no major road linking them. The best way to see the Le Cinque Terre is by train and boat, otherwise hiking is the foremost style of getting around.
The Rooms Elisabetta is in the center of the village and has six rooms with private baths. Three of the rooms are balconies and views of the sea. Price is about 35 Euro ($49) a night and includes cleaning, fresh towels and linens, and safe deposit box. Some rooms have kitchenettes and are located in different areas from the main Hostel.
