The Best Ski Resorts in Austria
It is not difficult to find good ski
resorts in Austria. The vast majority of the country is situated in the Alps and the Carpathian Mountains,
Europe's two largest mountain ranges. With almost 75 percent of the country sitting in these two ranges, Austria is well set up for skiing and has many world class resorts to choose from.
Kitzbuhel
Kitzbuhel, just a two-hour trip from Innsbruck, Salzburg and Munich, is an excellent resort for all levels of skiing. Located on a glacier, the resort is ideal for intermediate skiers and snowboarders. The resort offers three different, major ski areas to choose from. The Hahnenkamm, which hosts world cup skiing competitions annually, the Kitzbuhel Horn, the best place for snowboarders, and Jochberg-Pass, an ideal all-around mountain. The town of Kitzbuhel makes a trip here all the better with its quaint layout and amazingly clean streets.

St. Anton
The first ski instructors in the country, well before World War I, started by working at St. Anton (many of whom eventually moved to and started the craze of alpine skiing in the U.S. during the 1930's). This massive ski resort offers arguably the best expert runs in the country and is famed for its entertaining apres-ski parties. The ski season here starts as early as November and during a heavy winter will stay open until May. St. Anton is also when known for its massive number of trails, some of which are over six miles long.

Nassfeld-Hermagor
In southern Austria, along the border with Italy, lies one of the country's largest and consistently snow-covered ski resorts. Nassfeld-Hermagor is well suited to handle all levels of skiers and has a large following in the ski community. Here visitors will find over 100 kilometers of runs and over 30 cable cars designed to shlep skiers up the mountains quickly. Both skiers and snowboarders are welcome and can expect fantastic facilities as well as numerous on slope eateries.
