Every year hundreds of thousands of visitors flow into Amsterdam, many of them college students looking to cut down on their expenses. A good way to save money is to stay in a hostel. These Amsterdam hostels have a laid-back atmosphere, but also give travelers the chance to economize while visiting the Venice of the North.
The Flying Pig Uptown Hostel
The Flying Pig has two locations in Amsterdam, including uptown. Dormitory-style rooms with private lights and beds are available, as are private single rooms. Free movies, breakfast, linens and Internet access are available to guests, and the hostel has 24-hour security on-site.

The Flying Pig Downtown Hostel
The Downtown location of the Flying Pig Hostel is a coed dormitory-style hostel located in the old part of the city. Guests have free towels, linens, computers and wireless Internet access. Guests must be between the ages of 18 and 40. The hostel is completely nonsmoking.

Stayokay Amsterdam Stadsdoelen Hostel
This hostel is part of Hostelling International, which charges an additional fee for guests who aren't members. It is open all day and has no curfew. It offers common areas where guests can smoke, as well as laundry service. Free computers, free Internet and free breakfast are included.

The Bulldog Hostel
The Bulldog Hostel is located in the red light district of Amsterdam and places certain restrictions on the ages and number of guests such as excluding groups of more than six people under the age of 18. The hostel has a game room for guests, offers free breakfast, and has a bar and restaurant located on site.

Lucky Lake Hostel
The Lucky Lake Hostel, completely unlike other hostels, has trailers and cabins instead of traditional dorm rooms. Guests also have access to a lounge area and a market with snacks and souvenirs for sale. The hostel offers a game room and free breakfast and requires that guests be at least 17 years old.

International Budget Hostel
The International Budget Hostel gives guests free linens, hot showers and Internet access. A lounge area for guests has a television and telephone. The hostel offers little in the way of amenities, but its cleanliness and low price make it a high-rated hostel in Amsterdam.

Shelter City Hostel
The Shelter City Hostel has a curfew of 2 a.m. every night, which guests must follow. The hostel is completely alcohol and drug free, though it does offer spaces for cigarette smokers. The hostel houses male and female guests in separate rooms, and all rooms have bunk beds for guests.
