vacations can be difficult, especially ski vacations in other countries. Just finding a
resort that caters to different levels of skier expertise is challenge, all by itself. Finding actives out side the slopes and keeping young children happy brings up a whole other list of needs for finding the right resort. Though not every resort is family-friendly, there are a few highly reviewed ones that are.
Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany
Garmisch-Partenkirchen has become a favorite among sightseers and professional skiers alike. Famous for being a former location for the Winter Olympics and New Year's day Ski jumping competitions, its slopes are sure to challenge even the most advanced skier. On the flip side the resort also has runs and classes that cater to novice skiers. After hitting the slopes Garmisch-Partenkirchen's traditional architecture and locals that still wear traditional ski gear, make staying in town a must for any sightseer.

Gstaad, Swizerland
The small village of Gstaad is by far the most expensive of all the European ski resorts, but also one of the most highly reviewed. Bordering both the German and French Alps, Gstaad is also the most multicultural. English, French and German are all spoken here. With slopes for both the novice, intermediate and expert skiers Gstaad is ideal for families with skiers of all skill levels and age groups. Gstaad is car free and makes for a more quite family get away. All the hotels, shops and restaurants are five star establishments that vary from kid friendly to more adult oriented.

Obertauern, Austria
Obertauern is budget-friendly and with more modern buildings than other resorts, this makes the Obertauern hotels more user-friendly for Americans. The slopes in Obertauern cater mostly to the novice to moderate skier. Obertauern has been reviewed by "Lonely Planet" as having a excellent ski schools younger children and adults just starting out.
