Step 1
Pack snacks, toys and medications for your kids. They might not like Brazilian food, so it's a good idea to have some of their favorite snacks available. Familiar toys also will keep them entertained and provide a sense of security.
Step 2
If you're going to Rio de Janiero, watch people playing footbolley, or foot volleyball, at Posto 9 at Ipanema beach. Your children will be entertained watching the games. There are vendors who sell everything from shrimp kabobs, hammocks, popsicles and sunglasses.
Step 3
Spend the day on the beach. There are many to choose from throughout the country. Slather on the sunscreen first, though, or the kids could get burned.
Step 4
Visit the Botanical Gardens in Rio. There are many things for the kids to see, and it's relaxing for mom and dad. You also get to feed the pelicans and fish.
Step 5
Explore the city of Florianópolis. It's a great family destination with gorgeous beaches, restaurants with fresh seafood, hiking and historic neighborhoods.
Step 6
Exercise caution if traveling close to the Colombian border. According to the U.S. Department of State, Colombian groups have kidnapped tourists in border areas.
Step 7
Avoid drinking tap water and eating street food. They can cause illness.
