How to Sync a Used iPod
Just because an iPod has already been synced with one computer doesn't mean it can't then be synced with another. The songs contained on the iPod must be present on the new computer to remain on the device. In most cases, this simply means that the former owner's music will be erased and replaced by the new user's music. By plugging a used iPod into a new computer the device's content will simply be erased and synced with the music, videos and applications (depending on the capabilities of the iPod) found on the new computer.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Things You'll Need:
  • iTunes
  • iTunes
Step 1

Plug your used iPod into your computer using the iPod's USB link cable.

Step 2

Open iTunes.

Step 3

Carefully read the message that appears on screen. A dialog box will appear letting you know that the iPod you are trying to sync is currently synced with another computer. You will have the option to restore it to its original factory settings so you can now sync it with this computer or eject it.

Step 4

Select the option that reads "Restore to Factory Settings." This will erase all of the previous data found on the used iPod.

Step 5

Set up your iPod. Before it can be synced for the first time you must fill in information like the iPod's name and specify its sync settings. iTunes will automatically prompt you to do this.

Step 6

Right click the name of your iPod under the "Devices" sub menu on the left side of the iTunes screen. Select the option that reads "Sync." Your used iPod will now be completely synced with the data found on your computer as opposed to that of the previous owner's.
