El Salvador is a country located in
Central America. The capital of the country is San Salvador. The official language of El Salvador is Spanish. As of 2008, the population of El Salvador has a population of 7,066,403.
Inhabitants
The original inhabitants of El Salvador were descendants of the Aztec Indians known as the Pipil Indians. Other original inhabitants were the Pocomames and Lemes Indians.
Exploration
On May 31,1522, Spanish Admiral Andres Niño began the exploration of Central America.
Independence
El Salvador declared its independence from Spain in 1821. After several resistance strikes, El Salvador became an independent republic in 1838.
Civil War
The deterioration of the democratic institutions led to the country's civil war between the government and leftist rebels in 1980. The war ended in 1992 with a casualty of 75,000.
Capitol
San Salvador was established as a village in 1525. In 1546, the King of Spain, Charles I made San Salvador a city.
