Costa Rica is a destination known for ecotourism and outdoor activities. Whether you want to visit a volcano, take a zipline tour through a rain forest or just lie on the
beach, there's a good chance that Costa Rica has the right activity for you. A few tips will help you make the most of your Costa Rican adventure.
Passport Requirements
Visitors with valid passports from countries in North America, Europe and a number of other countries can stay in Costa Rica for a period of 90 days without obtaining a visa.
Currency
You will get the best conversion rates by changing your money over in a bank or using a bank's ATM.
Packing List
Pack a mosquito repellent containing DEET. Hiking boots or sport sandals are excellent for hiking. Women should plan to pack tampons, as they can be difficult to find and/or expensive.
Language
Though English is widely spoken in Costa Rica, becoming familiar with a few Spanish words and phrases will greatly aid your travels.
Getting Around
The bus system in Costa Rica is a reliable way to get around the country. If you opt to rent a car, consider renting a 4WD vehicle, especially if you will be traveling during the rainy season.
