About Traveling to Puerto Rico
When traveling to Puerto Rico, you are entering the gateway to the
Caribbean, just 1,000 miles southeast of
Miami. Its economy is based on the production and exportation of manufactured goods, high-technology equipment and pharmaceuticals.
Geography
Only 100 miles long and 35 miles wide, Puerto Rico is between the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea and is home to almost 4 million people, with 1.5 million residing in San Juan.
Travel Documents
When traveling to Puerto Rico, as a U.S. Commonwealth, passports are not required for visiting U.S. Citizens, although valid photo identification is necessary. Travelers returning to U.S. are subject to agricultural baggage checks.
Transportation
Visitors can easily access Puerto Rico through its three major airport, including the largest and busiest, the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, located minutes from Old San Juan.

Warm and friendly people create a diverse cultural and racial mix: Spanish, Indian, African and something else. Somehow it all merges into a culture that is fascinating and unique.

Always popular are the historic Old San Juan, the only walled city in the Caribbean, or the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest system, the El Yunque Rainforest.
