Review of Sandals Royal Caribbean in Montego Bay

Sandals Royal Caribbean has its own private island
A visit to Sandals Royal Caribbean resort & Private Island in Montego Bay, Jamaica, is a memorable experience for any couple. Four pools (two with swim-up bars so you don't even have to leave the water for a pina colada) and four restaurants lend themselves to quiet romance, while activities (even wind surfing and scuba diving is included) are great for an active couple. If you ever run out of options, there's a quick shuttle to take you to Sandals Inn or Sandals Montego Bay, where there are five more pools, six bars and eight additional restaurants.
Wows and Woes

Wows: In the summer of 2009, Sandals added "swim-up" suites to the Royal Caribbean, allowing guests to swim straight to their rooms.
Woes: While the expansion details at Sandals Royal Caribbean are nice, the added rooms and suites have changed it from intimate to huge.

Insider Tips
Be sure to make reservations for The Carlyle
Be sure to make reservations for The Carlyle

Some of the more popular restaurants require reservations and can book up quickly. Five great ones that you should reserve when arriving in Montego Bay are The Carlyle (flambé-style) at Sandals Inn; Cucina Romana and Tokyo Joe's at Sandals Montego Bay; Royal Thai and Le Jardinier at the Royal Caribbean. (Note: If you are staying in a suite, there is a concierge who can take care of all reservations for you.)

Author's Most Memorable Moment

As I entered the Great House and was handed champagne, I knew I was in for a different kind of vacation. Sandals Royal Caribbean in Montego Bay has a sense of luxury and romance that stays with you as you cozy up in a wicker hammock--one of the most romantic moments in my life that I have yet to duplicate.

Bottom Line

Sandals Royal Caribbean is the place for a honeymoon or romantic getaway, with less of a partying atmosphere than the Montego Bay resort and more to offer than Sandals Inn.
