Dutch Village, Sandals Whitehouse
Located on the southern side of the island of Jamaica, Sandals Whitehouse offers a quiet retreat in an area that is not yet overgrown and developed. Whitehouse is appealing because unlike other Sandals, this location offers both large pools and a long
beach. The
resort is spread along the coast. It is an ideal balance between a mega-resort and a small retreat, all while retaining the feel of an intimate,
romantic destination.
Wows and Woes
Sunset at Sandals Whitehouse
The sunsets here are outstanding. Get your camera ready or plan to have professional shots taken while visiting.
It takes a two-hour drive over the mountains along winding roads to get to the resort. Those prone to car sickness should take note.
Insider Tips
The martini bar located upstairs above Eleanor's restaurant is a highlight. Head there for pre-dinner drinks and then come back afterward for the piano sing-a-longs. While all rooms may not have a clear view of the ocean, they all face the ocean and each is exactly the same until you get to the suite level. If you want to save money on a lower category room, Whitehouse is the place to do it.
Author's Most Memorable Moment
Beach at Sandals Whitehouse
Within the Sandals chain this resort has been the first one worth repeating for us. Arriving the year it opened we couldn't get over how the resort manages to be secluded and spread out, while still feeling intimate and quaint. Visiting again three years later, the growth of lush vegetation, the martini bar, delicious Jamaican cuisine at Bluefield's and Eleanor's, and friendly service makes Whitehouse our absolute favorite.
Bottom Line
Sandals Whitehouse is for couples who wish for a resort away from the popular tourist destinations, with a long beach, large pools and more Jamaican-inspired cuisine.
