Jamaica Trip Plans & Vacation Ideas
Jamaica is a beautiful island that offers more than white-sand
beaches. The history, culture and friendly people make the island a fun and relaxing place for those looking to get away for a while. Whether seeking high-energy adventure or a slow, relaxing pace, there are plenty of options to consider while planning a trip to Jamaica.
Room With a View
Travelers have a number of options when it comes to visiting Jamaica. The island offers many all-inclusive resorts for every type of guest, from singles to couples or families. These are popular due to the flat rate guests pay for amenities such as dining, beverages, water sports, entertainment and other recreational activities. Other options include bed and breakfasts, budget-friendly guest houses, villas, apartment rentals and traditional hotels.
Climbing Waterfalls
Waterfalls are a beautiful part of the Jamaican landscape. One of the best known is Dunn's River Falls, located near Ocho Rios. Visitors at Dunn's River have the opportunity to climb the falls, enjoying a challenging and breathtaking experience. Those near Negril may want to explore Mayfield Falls or YS Falls, which is located at the YS Estate in the village of Middle Quarters.
Rum Tasting
Jamaica is known for its Appleton Estate Rum. Located in Siloah near Montego Bay, this tour tells visitors about the history and process of rum making; the interactive tour also allows guests, according to Visit Jamaica, to "juice their own cane, sample white rum and boil 'wet sugar.'" The Appleton Estate site mentions that a bottle of rum is also included at the end of the tour.
Exploring by Bicycle
Blue Mountain Bicycle Tours provide a high-energy opportunity for seekers of a more scenic view of the island. The Ocho Rios based tour also departs out of Kingston, includes brunch and lunch at the Blue Mountain Restaurant and Coffee Shop and provides a view of the Blue Mountain Coffee Plantation. Other tour highlights include a ride through the rain forest and a swim in a waterfall.
Adrenaline Rush
Zip Line Adventure Tours provide tourists with lots of action. The company has zip lines ranging from 250 to 1,600 feet, which is the longest in the Caribbean. Located near Montego Bay in the town of Lethe, the zip tour includes ecological education and fruit tastings. If the zip line is not enough of an adrenaline rush, guests can also participate in tubing, rafting and kayaking.
