Caribbean Vacation Review

Going to the Caribbean is wonderful. Many islands, like the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, don't require a passport and you can enjoy a foreign flavor, great beaches and different cuisines, all in places where you don't need to speak a language other than English. It is exotic--yet familiar.
Wows and Woes

Wows
Beaches and water activities like sailing, wake boarding and diving keep you active.
Woes
The long hurricane season, June 1- Nov. 30, means you can encounter less-than-stellar weather.

Insider Tips

If you are traveling with a baby, bring extra diapers and swim diapers. The prices are very high at resorts, and if you go into town, you may not find the brand or size you need.

Author's Most Memorable Moment

The first time we took my oldest daughter to the Caribbean was in the middle of the winter when she was 2. She had been so frustrated by bundling and limited outdoor time that she just squealed with delight when she could wear just a bathing suit.

Bottom Line

For a relaxing family vacation, the Caribbean is the place. Islands or resorts where there is no gambling are more family friendly.
