As if going to a beautiful island is not exciting enough, canopy tours give thrill-seekers the chance to soar through the tree tops, making the trip even more fun. These challenging adventures will help you see things from a new perspective--from the air. How much of a daredevil are you? Find out by challenging yourself to experience one of the canopy tours from one end to the other.
What Are Canopy Tours?
Canopy tours, also known as zipline tours, are a great way to enjoy an aerial view of Jamaica. Ziplines vary in length, anywhere from 250 to 1,600 feet long and are attached to tree tops on both ends. Participants wear a helmet and a harness that securely attaches them with a hook to the zipline. When ready, the participant jumps off a platform and soars through the air like a bird from one end of the zipline to the other.
What to Know Before You Go
Since this is an adventure sport, a person must be in good health in order to participate. Pregnant women are not permitted on the tour. Children must be 10 years or older to go on the canopy tour. The minimum weight requirement is 65 lbs. and the maximum weight requirement is 265 lbs. Items can easily be lost on the tour, so it is best to secure all lose items, such as cameras, sunglasses, and money. No flip-flops are permitted. It is recommended that reservations should be made in advance since tours can fill up quickly.
How Much Does it Cost?
Canopy tours are a bit expensive, ranging in the neighborhood of $87 to $89. Depending on where you take the tour, you may also get refreshments and a chance to take a jungle bridge tour on foot. It is well worth the month for this exciting adventure.
Where to Go to Do a Canopy Tour
There are several companies in Jamaica that specialize in this fun adventure sport, including Chukka Caribbean Adventures and ZipLine Adventure Tours.
