Bahamas Destination Weddings
Plan your destination wedding in the Bahamas for a
romantic, tropical ceremony. Select from all-inclusive wedding packages for your friends and family, or plan an intimate service for just the two of you. It is not uncommon for a Bahamas destination wedding to be ceremonial, rather than official. The residency requirements and other legalities should be considered along with the destination island and the type of wedding you envision.
Locations and Packages
There are several top-rated resorts offering destination wedding packages on Grand Bahamas Island, Nassau, Bimini and Paradise Island that offer all-inclusive wedding packages for everything from transportation and accommodations to the photographer at your ceremony and everything in between. Many resorts also offer the services of a wedding coordinator as part of the wedding package. If you prefer to vacation on one island in the Bahamas, and marry on another, that can also be arranged. Some resorts and hotels offer discount accommodations based on the number of rooms you book for your wedding guests and some offer a free wedding with a minimum stay.
Ceremonies
Select from an intimate destination wedding on a secluded beach, or a beautifully decorated waterside gazebo facing the sunset. Most resorts also offer poolside or garden settings for your wedding ceremony. You can opt for a civil or a religious ceremony and the preferred officiate will be provided for you. No matter how large or how small, you can plan a destination wedding in the Bahamas to fit your idea of perfect.
Legalities
There are minimum residency requirements, along with fees and licenses required to be legally married in the Bahamas. You can only apply for a wedding license after you've been in the Bahamas for 24 hours, and you will not receive your license for another 24 hours. Both the bride and the groom must present their passport with a Bahamas entry stamp, their birth certificates and photo IDs when they apply for a marriage license. Single persons must bring a sworn declaration stating they are single and certified by a notary or other relevant authority in their resident country. Divorced persons must have their original final decree or a certified copy. The same applies to widowed persons; they must present an original death certificate or a certified copy. Fees include a license fee, plus additional fees if either of you have been married before.
