As New Brunswick's capital, Fredericton is the artistic and cultural center of Eastern
Canada. Home to just over 50,000 people, the city is filled with students and a youthful, energetic vibe due to three universities and rich music scene. This invites a multicultural aspect that is not seen in many small cities. There are many things to do in Fredericton for those visiting at any time of the year.
Trails
Currently Fredericton has over 80 km of multi-use trails. Bikers, hikers, runners and walkers are free to use the well-maintained trails during the warmer months. In the winter, the trails are open to snowshoe walkers, cross-country skiers and hikers. The trails take visitors all throughout the city to see the sites, the forests and the St. John River.

Odell Arboretum
The Odell Arboretum consists of two parts. A walking trail winds through 2.8 km the forest interior, allowing visitors to disappear into nature. The second part of the Arboretum is a collection of trees that represent every species found in New Brunswick. Paths take visitors through the collection and the many benches allow visitors to spend as much time as they wish admiring the natural surroundings.

From May until September (or longer depending on weather conditions), visitors of Fredericton can rent canoes, kayaks and rowing sculls from The Small Craft Aquatic Center and go out onto the St. John River for a day of water-related fun and exercise. The Center offers rowing, canoeing and kayaking classes. For kids 6 to 17, a two-week sailing camp is offered; for kids 11 to 16, the Center offers an Adventure Day Camp that teaches basic skills and an appreciation for the river.
