Things to Do in Banff, Canada
Banff is a town in the Canadian province of Alberta and the gateway to Banff National Park. The highest town in
Canada (it sits at an altitude of 4,800 feet), it is a frequent stop for those searching for the nearby skiing opportunities. This
resort town, founded in 1884, has less than 10,000 permanent residents, although it doubles up in size during the high winter season.
Banff Park Museum
This simple, unassuming museum is a hidden gem that started as just a branch of the National History Museum. Housed in a log house, the museum is home to a large collection of artifacts and specimens (plants, animals and mineral samples). Hands-on exhibits make this a great place to bring the kids, while adults can have some fun on the reading room, where old manuscripts are available for inspection. Just as impressive as the collection of stuffed animals is the building itself, with its bracketed verandas, shingled roof and cross-log construction.

Banff National Park
Banff National Park is the oldest in Canada (first opened in 1885). Covering a total of 2,564 square miles, the park attracts over half a million tourists each year, who come mostly to enjoy winter activities such as skiing, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. The park also offers a 27-hole golf course, day hikes (especially popular in summer and autumn), horseback riding, guided tours, backcountry camping and climbing opportunities. A wilderness pass is required for most activities outside of winter sports.
