Canada is the world's second largest country with one of the lowest population densities on the planet. Known for its vast natural resources, vibrant cities and cultures and dedication to the arts, Canada offers a multitude of choices for visiting travelers to explore. Whether you want to hike in the mountains, walk along the
beach, visit an art museum or experience life "up north," you'll find it in Canada and in these five great Canadian destinations.
Banff/Lake Louise, Alberta
Tucked into the Canadian Rockies, Banff, Alberta, enjoys an incredibly picturesque locale, surrounded by high peaks, shimmering glacial lakes and abundant wildlife. The stately Chateau Lake Louise, on the shores of its namesake lake, is one of Canada's most recognizable buildings.
Quebec City
With more than 400 years of history and a culture that's as French as you'll find in North America, Quebec City is the perfect "European" getaway, and you never have to leave the continent. People are drawn to the city's architecture, sidewalk cafes, restaurants and grand views of the St. Lawrence River.
Churchill, Manitoba
This isolated outpost located on the shore of Hudson Bay can be reached by airplane or train only, but that does not deter wildlife watchers from making the trip. Churchill is known as one of the best places on the planet to view polar bears in their natural habitat, when the arctic giants wander along the town's coast in autumn waiting for sea ice to form. In the summer, Churchill is greeted by abundant flocks of birds, and the waters of Hudson Bay are frequented by beluga whales, giving wildlife lovers another reason and season to visit this northern town.
Bay of Fundy
Running between New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, the Bay of Fundy is known for its huge tidal surges of more than 40 feet, sea caves and arches, beaches and coastal communities and the many species of whales that cruise its waters.
Toronto, Ontario
Toronto is a sprawling, multicultural city home to world-class museums, music, parks, shopping and eateries. Whether you venture up the CN Tower for a bird's-eye view of the metropolis, pop into a Greek cafe for stuffed grape leaves, or finagle a pair of hockey tickets to a Maple Leafs' game, there's something for everyone in Toronto.
