Lake Louise Hotel Review
The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise is set amidst one of the most astounding backdrops in the Canadian Rockies, if not the world. On the banks of the lake, surrounded by massive Rocky Mountain peaks with Victoria Glacier in the background, the views from the room, restaurants and lounge are breathtaking. With luxurious rooms and suites and a selection of fine restaurants, the Chateau is the premier destination in Lake Louise.
Wows and Woes
The view is truly world-class and one of the best you're likely to find anywhere. The variety of dining is elegant and delicious, ranging from Swiss cuisine to bar and grill.
Many outdoor activities just outside the door including the Shoreline Trail that can transform from relaxing, lakeside walk to extended backcountry adventure.
You pay for the experience. Prices per room can get quite high, particularly for suites. Expect pricing to start around $300 per night. Similarly, hotel restaurants are pricey.
Lake Louise is a serene, natural getaway, but may be too slow and quiet for some.
Insider Tips
Summer is the high season. Lake Louise is the second largest ski resort in Canada and offers plenty of winter recreation. Consider taking a trip in winter for lower prices, snow-covered scenery and winter sports. Spend the extra money and reserve a lakeside room--being able to lie in bed and enjoy the view right from your own window is worth it. Also take advantage of hotel services such as tours and mountain adventure concierge.
Author's Most Memorable Moment
Walking through the lobby past the Lobby Bar, I was greeted by the huge picture windows that look out onto the frozen lake and towering, granite faces. The view made an immediate, indelible impression and I knew that I'd chosen the right hotel for my honeymoon. I also knew that I'd be drinking more than one beverage in that Lobby Bar.
Bottom Line
While more expensive than other options, the Fairmont Chateau provides an experience that you'll never forget. If you like mountain recreation and sightseeing, a trip here is worth the expense.
