Canada has a long list of famous people from all walks of life. Among the most celebrated Canadians are numerous actors, actresses, athletes, musicians and inventors.
Actors
Canada has produced such notable actors as Brendan Fraser, who starred in the "Mummy" movies, and David James Elliot, the star of the long-running CBS series "JAG." A pair of original "Star Trek" actors--James Doohan, who portrayed Scotty, and William Shatner, who was Captain James T. Kirk--are from Canada.
Actresses
"Sex and The City" vixen Kim Cattrall's family moved to Canada when she was a year old and she grew up there. Pamela Anderson, who rocketed to fame in "Baywatch," is also a Canadian product, born in British Columbia.
Athletes
Wayne Gretzky is the greatest of countless hockey stars from Canada; he is the all-time leading goal scorer in the sport. Hall of Fame baseball pitcher Ferguson Jenkins, who won 20 games in a season seven times, was born in Ontario.
Musicians
Celine Dion, who has had such hits as "My Heart Will Go On," hails from Quebec. Another famous singer, Gordon Lightfoot, was born in 1938 in Ontario; his greatest hits include "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" and "Rainy Day People."
Inventors
Gideon Sundback, inventor of the zipper, was from Canada, as was the man who invented basketball, James Naismith. The inventor of the snow blower appropriately enough was also a Canadian--Alfred Scard.
