Visitors wishing to travel to
Canada have to adhere to certain rules and regulations at the border. Even though Canada seems like just a drive or a brief flight away from certain parts of the
United States, there are certain documents you must bring in order to pass through the border and gain entry into Canada. If you are prepared beforehand, however, crossing the border should be a simple process.
Documents
Bring the appropriate documents to cross the border. A passport or a birth certificate should suffice in order to cross into Canada. However, in certain cases border officials might ask travelers to show proof that they have sufficient money or proof of a return airplane ticket back home.
Duty Free Belongings
Travelers are allowed to bring certain items into Canada duty free, including seven ounces of tobacco, two-hundred cigarettes, fifty cigars and gifts with a value of no more than sixty Canadian dollars. Visitors must declare bulbs, seeds at plants at the border. Pets, such as dogs and cats, can be brought in with the appropriate documentation from veterinarians regarding recent vaccinations (within the past three years).
Vehicle Registration
If you are driving into Canada, it is very important to make sure that you have your car registration on hand to present to the Canadian border officials. This is because they are always vigilant for any stolen cars and people trying to get out of having to pay duty charges for vehicles purchased outside of the country.
