Location
Tonga is a chain of islands located in the South Pacific Ocean just south of Western Samoa.
Geography
Tonga is made up of 171 separate islands. Of these islands, 48 are inhabited. The total area of Tonga is 747 square kilometers.
Climate
Tonga has a tropical climate. The rainy season is from November to April and the dry season is from May to October. The high season corresponds with the months of May through October.
Population
The population of Tonga is just over 100,000 people. The majority of the population lives on the main island (Tongatapu).
Government
The Kingdom of Tonga is run by a constitutional hereditary monarchy. This means that the monarchy passes down from one generation to another.
Tourist Activities
Popular activities in Tonga include scuba diving, snorkeling, whale watching, kayaking and surfing.
