How to Restore iPod Shuffle Software
Despite the fact that the iPod Shuffle doesn't have a screen like the rest of the devices in the iPod family, occasionally, it will still need to be restored. Restoring an iPod Shuffle is the act of returning the device to its original factory settings. Doing this will fix most problems you may be encountering with the unit. It is important to note that restoring an iPod Shuffle will remove all songs you have synced to the device, as well as any settings you may have saved.
Instructions
Difficulty: Easy
Step 1
Connect your iPod Shuffle to your computer using the USB link cable that came inside the Shuffle's packaging. Once you've done this, open iTunes. Your iPod Shuffle will appear on the left side of the iTunes screen under the "Devices" submenu.
Step 2
Click on your iPod Shuffle under the "Devices" submenu. This will bring up a summary window, allowing you to change settings for your iPod.
Step 3
Click the "Restore" button in the center of the iPod Shuffle's summary window in iTunes. You will be presented with four restore options: You can completely restore the iPod, you can restore it and update its software to a newer version, you can restore it to the same version currently on the iPod, or you can restore the device using the newest software. Choose the option that best suits your needs.
Step 4
Watch the progress indicator in iTunes for the status of the restore. It is important that you do not disconnect your iPod Shuffle from your computer until the restore is complete.
Step 5
Watch for the iPod Shuffle's indicator light to begin flashing an orange color. This indicates that the software restore is complete. You can now begin the process of putting music back onto your iPod using iTunes.
