New Zealand is one of the foremost destinations in the world for adventure tourism. In both the North and the South Islands, there are plenty of options for visitors seeking an adrenaline rush.
Bungee Jumping
This adrenaline sport caught on quickly in New Zealand. You can do it just about anywhere, including specially-built bridges and cranes, ravines and even from helicopters.
Zorbing
This new relatively new adventure sport was invented in New Zealand. Zorbing involves rolling down a hill inside a giant, inflated plastic ball.
Skydiving
One of the oldest adrenaline sports, skydiving is available in several locations in New Zealand, most notably around Lake Taupo. Tandem leaps are available so you can get to the fun with minimal prep time.
Winter Sports
New Zealand's winters occur from approximately May to September, and offer lots of winter sports, including ever-popular skiing and snowboarding.
Blackwater Rafting
New Zealand's massive Waitomo Caves are home to a unique adventure experience. Raft in the dark, with only an innertube, a wetsuit and a miner's helmet.
Jet Boating
The South Island's Shotover River Canyon is home to New Zealand's famous jet boats. These nimble boats can travel up to 85 kilometers an hour in just a few inches of water and can turn on a dime, leaving passengers breathless.
