Sydney, Australia abounds with history and a diverse people, and is a fascinating place to visit. With a unique perspective on Colonialism and an indigenous people, as well as a growing economy, it's well worth a visit.
Reverse Seasons
Because Australia is in the Southern hemisphere, winter and summer are reversed. However, winters are reasonably mild, ranging from the low 40s at night to the mid 60s from June until August.
Money
The official Australian currency is the Australian Dollar. The notes are quite colorful, and there's even a Museum of Australian Currency Notes in central Sydney.
Formal Monarch
The Queen of Australia is Elizabeth II. Because Australia is still considered part of the British Empire, the Queen of England is still the formal monarch of Australia.
Convicts
Sydney was originally settled by convicts transported out of Britain for crimes such as stealing food.
Driving
Traffic in the city is fraught with danger at the best of times; further complicating the issue is the Australians' penchant for driving on the left side of the road.
