Sydney, Australia is a wonderful city full of beautiful sights that can easily become an opportunity for learning. Sydney offers not only beautiful sights at its harbor, but also educational opportunities that are truly unique due to its location. It's an easy and fun city to walk around in and a good place to visit with family. Kid or not, educational opportunities abound.
Opera House
The Sydney Opera House is world famous for its unique design. Unfurling like a series of sails, it's an architectural marvel as its design stretched the boundaries of what could be built at the time. Acoustically, it's one of the most popular places for performers. The Opera House offers a one hour tour that uses a multimedia presentation to explain the design concepts used both internally and externally.
The Rocks
The place where modern Australia began, the Rocks is a 19th century village that has been carefully preserved and interspersed with modern buildings. It's the continent's oldest colonial site. With careful preservation, modern boutiques and cafes abound surrounded by historic buildings filled with Old World charm. It's a great place for a walking tour, with plenty of opportunities to rest your feet and snack or shop.
Zoo
Because of its unique placement far from other continents, Australia abounds with animals found only there. A day at the Taronga Zoo provides a chance to see some of the crazy animals produced in Australia, such as the platypus, koala bear and kangaroo. The zoo also features a chance to hold an owl and spend time with koalas. It's open every day, 365 days a year, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Australian Museum
This natural history museum excels at providing information about native Australian plants and people. It was Australia's first established museum. It features dinosaur exhibits in addition to information about the Great Barrier Reef and Australia through time. It is open 364 days a year and closed on Christmas Day.
