How to Find Cheap Airfares to Australia

Flights to Australia are generally expensive when compared to many destinations across the world, but there are ways to find cheaper tickets and save money. Pricing depends on factors such as point of departure, travel dates, seasons, airlines, airports and where you are going. With some flexibility and a lot of searching, you can find affordable flights to the Australia.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step 1

Start shopping around early, preferably six months before your travel date. You will likely find cheaper flight packages than if you purchase a ticket closer to your departure date.

Step 2

Travel in the off-peak seasons, between June and September if you are traveling to south Australia. September to November is also an ideal time to find cheaper tickets. If you can, avoid traveling to south Australia during the tourist season of November through February.

Step 3

Try to fly into Sydney or Melbourne, especially if you are purchasing a round-way ticket. The airports in these cities offer the greatest flexibility regarding schedules and connections. Conversely, avoid flying into smaller cities such as Darwin, Brisbane or Cairns; ticket prices will be more expensive, even if you fly between July and September.

Step 4

Fly Qantas as your airline of choice because it offers cheaper travel packages. Air New Zealand and Malaysian Airlines also boast affordable packages. Do not book flights directly with these airlines, but rather through popular travel websites such as Expedia, Priceline and Orbitz (see resources).

Step 5

Speak to travel agents who can negotiate cheaper prices and packages for you. Each of the mentioned travel websites has a customer service number you can call for assistance. Always state that you are looking for the cheapest price.

Step 6

Check out last-minute deals on popular travel websites, especially if you haven't been able to plan ahead.
