Packing List for Bangkok, Thailand
Bangkok, Thailand, is located in Southeast
Asia and is a fascinating place to visit no matter your age, race or religion. Visitors can check out various palaces, temples and shrines scattered throughout Bangkok, dine at delicious restaurants and street cafes and mingle with locals who are always interested in a good chat. Bangkok's diverse sights and inhabitants make it a truly amazing place to visit, but before you pack your bags, consider what to bring.
Conservative Clothing
While a vacation and conservative clothing don't sound like a great pair, it's important to bring along one or two pairs of plain, non-tanktop shirts that don't reveal cleavage and long pants/skirts. You'll need this kind of clothing when visiting any religious site, including temples and palaces that no longer have regular worshipers. Note that many of these places will not allow visitors inside if they are only wearing shorts/skirts that fall above the knees (women) and tank tops/spaghetti-straps (men and women). Also refrain from cleavage-baring shirts.
Hot Weather Gear
Make sure to pack your suitcase full of clothing that is ideal for hot weather. Thailand is a tropical place, and it is warm throughout the year. Summers are especially hot---light, breathable fabrics are encouraged. Also bring along a hat/visor, sunglasses and sunscreen to protect your face and skin from the sun's harsh rays. It is advisable to bring high-SPF sunscreen if you are sensitive to the sun---it can be difficult to locate high-SPF lotion once you are in Thailand.
Comfortable Shoes
You will likely do a lot of walking in Bangkok, Thailand, whether it's around the grounds of the Golden Palace or simply when exploring the city's terrain. Pack a pair of comfortable walking shoes and several pairs of socks to prevent you from getting painful blisters. Flip-flops are okay for short walks, but the streets of Bangkok can be dirty; it's not uncommon to see a rat or two trollop by. Covering your feet is always a good idea.
Light Jacket
While Bangkok can be especially hot in the summer, it's always safe to bring a light jacket or long-sleeved shirt for cool nights. This is especially a good idea if you plan to visit the Chao Phraya river, Bangkok's main river and also a major mode of transportation. There are many restaurants nestled along the river's edge, and it tends to be cooler in those areas.
