Kuching Climate & Weather
Kuching is a large city in Sarawak, Malaysia. Like the rest of Sarawak, Kuching and its environs have a tropical climate that is affected by monsoons. Whether it is raining or sunny, temperatures do not vary much. The lowest temperature ever recorded in the city was 66°. However, temperatures seldom reach 100°, even during summer.

Kuching is the wettest place in Malaysia. It averages 247 days of rain per year. The heaviest rains occur during the winter monsoons, which last from November to March. In January, the city does not see much sun. Rains and winds are possible at any time of the day, but most often occur during the morning hours. The precipitation does not often affect the temperature.

From April to October, Kuching experiences drier weather. However, it would be incorrect to call this time of year the dry season. Rains still fall, with the monthly precipitation averaging more than 7 inches. Temperatures remain mostly constant, in the low 90s during the day.

Haze

Forest fires occur almost yearly in nearby Indonesia. These disasters can cause a thick haze to settle over Kuching. This affects the quality of the air and also causes the temperature in the city to rise slightly. This haze usually occurs in June or July.

Humidity

Though temperatures in Kuching are milder than those of other major tropical cities, the humidity can be intense at times. This is especially true during the rainy season, but intense humidity can occur at any time during the year.
