The History of Seoul, Korea
The history of Seoul, Korea, began in approximately 18 B.C., when it was picked to be the capital of Baekje Kingdom. Since then, Seoul has changed names and gone through different types of rule. From its long past to the modern era of technology, Seoul is rich in history.
Joseon Dynasty

Seoul flourished during the Joseon Dynasty, even though it was an a feudal system that was archaic by modern standards. Neo-Confucianism ruled the philosophy of the time, with Buddhism and Catholicism banned from the city.

Japanese Rule

Japan took control of Korea in 1910 and made Seoul the center of the Japanese culture. The Japanese burned down palaces and the Korean culture nearly disappeared as the Japanese attempted to destroy it.

WWII

After the Japanese tyranny was defeated, Korea regained Seoul, which once again became the capital in 1953.

Industry

During the 1960s and '70s, Seoul became an epicenter of electronics. It continues to house headquarters for some of the most popular electronics companies, such as LG and Samsung.

In the history of Seoul, each new ruler of Korea gave his capital a new name.
