Facts About Tahiti
Tahiti is part of the Windward Group in French Polynesia, and it is the largest island of the group. The people of Tahiti are very hospitable and tipping is considered an insult; they appreciate a small gift more than money. It is a common practice to wear a flower behind your ear in Tahiti, but be careful which ear--if you put it behind your right ear, it means you are available.
Climate
The climate in Tahiti is consistent year round, with the average temperatures in the 70s and 80s Fahrenheit. The hottest months are from December to February and the coldest from May to November.
Rainfall
In addition to being the hottest time of the year, the months from December to February are also the rainy season in Tahiti.
Visiting
In order to enter Tahiti, citizens of the United States and Canada need a current and valid passport, proof that they are going to be leaving Tahiti, such as a return airline ticket, and they need to prove that they have enough money for their stay in Tahiti.
Money
The money used in Tahiti is the Pacific Franc. It is used in French Polynesia, New Caledonia and Wallis and Futuna.
Airport
There is only one international airport in Tahiti, Faa'a International Airport, and that is in the capital city of Papeete. The total population of Tahiti is about 180,000 and 120,000 of them live in Papeete.
