Located near several universities within about 15 minutes of the Taipei City Center in the Zhongshan District, this 3-star hotel has good-sized rooms with standard Asian amenities, including a hot water heater and complimentary tea in each room. Guest rooms also have small refrigerators. The hotel offers a complimentary breakfast buffet with Western and Asian fare daily and the front-desk staff speaks fluent English. Wireless internet access and business center are available.
Wows and Woes
Plenty of convenience stores and quick eats nearby, great nightlife options within easy walking distance, and the nearest train station is about a 10-minute walk.
The amenities are adequate but not luxurious. If you're happy with simple and plain, a good hotel for you.
Insider Tips
To get a little more space rather than the average small-size Asian room, ask for a corner room. For a real big-city Asia experience, check out the night market a couple of blocks away, where you'll find sellers hawking everything from chicken feet to knock-off handbags.
Author's Most Memorable Moment
When traveling to Taipei to visit family, we took the advice of other travelers and visited the night market, which was teeming with visual sensations. I passed on the chicken feet, but had some wonderful spicy, barbecued corn on the cob, delicate cream-filled cookies and savory pork-stuffed buns.
Bottom Line
If you're looking for a good value--prices are usually less than $90 U.S.--this Taipei hotel fits the bill. Clean rooms and a safe neighborhood.
