How to Convert an Audiobook From MP3 to iPod Format
The Apple iPod has the ability to play audiobooks and save chapter information so that you can quickly return to a chapter at a later time. The iPod is not able to directly play MP3 audiobooks, however, as they are not a file format the device is capable of using. To play an MP3 audiobook on the iPod, you will first need to convert it to the "M4B" file format. There are third-party conversion programs readily available on the Internet that make the conversion process quick and easy.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You'll Need:
  • MP3 to iPod conversion software
  • MP3 to iPod conversion software
Step 1

Download a software utility that is capable of converting MP3 audiobooks such as "MP3 to iPod Audiobook Converter" (see Resources). Open the utility's installation file and follow the on-screen installation instructions.

Step 2

Click on the "Add" button located at the top-right corner of the utility's window. Look through the list of folders on your computer's hard drive and find the MP3 audiobook you need to convert.

Step 3

Select the audiobook file and then click "Open." Click the "Add" button again and choose any additional audiobooks you want to convert to an iPod-compatible format.

Step 4

Locate the "Options" heading at the bottom of the window. Click on the "Convert all input files" button if you want each of the MP3 audiobooks to be converted into a single large audiobook file.

Step 5

Choose the "Convert each input file" option if you want each original MP3 audiobook to be converted into a separate iPod-compatible file. Click the "Start Conversion" button to convert the MP3 audiobooks into an iPod-compatible file format.
