China Eastern Airline Information

China Eastern Airlines is a major airline out of Shanghai. It provides service both throughout China and internationally. The two biggest airlines serviced by China Eastern Airlines are Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Shanghai Hongqiao International airport.
History

China Eastern Airlines began in 1988. It is owned mostly by the Chinese government, with some shares held publicly. About 29,000 people work for the airline.

Major Destinations

China Eastern Airlines flies to major cities in Europe, North America and Australia. It also services most of Asia.

African Connection

The airline began to fly to South Africa in 2007, but closed down the route a year later. They plan to begin service to Algiers.

Planes

China Eastern Airlines uses over 200 aircraft in its fleet. The Airbus A320-200 is the most plentiful plane in its fleet.

Accidents

China Eastern Airlines has had five accidents in its history up to 2009, the most recent being in November 2004, when a small plane crashed in Mongolia, killing all 53 people aboard.
