Air China features comfortable seating, a great staff and a broad range of plane sizes and types. Meals and snacks are served on every flight, no matter the length. Special food options (such as vegetarian and kosher) are available with a call ahead. Flight attendants are well versed in English, making every traveler's flight a comfortable and convenient one.
Wows and Woes
The flight attendants were gracious, friendly and spoke all three languages needed by their passengers (Chinese, the departing land's language and English). The pillow and blankets were clean and comfortable, which helped make a long flight much easier. Every seat comes with headphones so that passengers can watch in-flight movies and programs free of charge.
The in-flight magazine was in Chinese, as was the in-flight, duty-free shopping brochure. Some seats were not equipped with arrival cards. They were, however, available with the flight attendants request. On short flights, Air China does not serve wine or liquor.
Insider Tips
Bring a book or a magazine if you do not speak Chinese since the in-flight options are not available in English.
Ask for a pillow or blanket early during your flight because there is a limited supply.
If you require a special kind of meal (such as vegetarian or kosher), request one by calling ahead several days before your flight.
Author's Most Memorable Moment
I especially appreciated the flight attendant's happy faces, even when our flight hit rough turbulence. Those smiling faces settled my nerves. As someone who isn't fond of flying, that's a major bonus.
Bottom Line
Air China did a great job of making its passengers comfortable and happy. Food was decent, flight attendants were helpful and the actual flight itself was smooth.
