How to Renew a Sudanese Passport

While Sudanese passports remain valid for a period of ten years, they must go through a renewal process every two years. Depending on whether you need a routine biannual renewal or a completely new passport, a slightly different set of requirements apply. For those seeking a renewal within Sudan, the Ministry of Interior Affairs will be your first stop. For those applying from outside the country, the nearest Sudanese embassy or consulate will be able to help you through the process.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You'll Need:
  • Old or expired passport Completed application 1 passport photo (for each 2-year renewal) 4 passport photos (for each 10-year renewal) Renewal fee
  • Old or expired passport
  • Completed application
  • 1 passport photo (for each 2-year renewal)
  • 4 passport photos (for each 10-year renewal)
  • Renewal fee
Step 1

Obtain, fill out and sign the passport application form that applies to you. This will depend on whether your old passport has expired completely or simply needs the biannual renewal. If you are applying from outside Sudan, obtain the application from the nearest Sudanese embassy or consulate. If you are applying within Sudan, visit the Ministry of Interior Affairs Office.

Step 2

Attach passport photo(s) to your application. For the routine renewal (every two years), one photo is sufficient. For a new passport (every ten years) you will need to provide four photos.

Step 3

Provide the necessary documents. These will also depend on which type of renewal you seek. For the routine renewal, nothing more than the completed application form, one photo and the fee payment are needed. For a new ten-year passport you must also provide your old Sudanese passport and your national tax payments. Full-time students or "housewives" can exempt themselves from the national tax payments by providing a letter from their school or university proving their enrollment, or a marriage certificate, respectively. For renewal of lost or stolen passports, a police report is also necessary.

Step 4

Pay the application fee required by your place of application, whether it be the Ministry of Interior Affairs or an embassy or consulate. Fees and acceptable payment methods may vary.

Step 5

Allow a period of about two weeks for routine renewals to be completed.
