The small country of Malawi is nestled in the Great Rift Valley of southeastern
Africa. Known for being the poorest country in Africa, Malawi's economy is based primarily on agriculture. However, tourism is growing around the shores of Lake Malawi because of the unspoiled
beaches dotted with palm trees. Regardless of the purpose for your visit, you will need to know the passport and visa requirements for Malawi. All items required should be sent to your local embassy or consulate for approval, which will take about a week.
Passport
All visitors who travel to Malawi must have a passport. Your passport must be valid for at least six months after the start date of your trip.
Application Forms
You are required to complete and sign two visa application forms for your trip to Malawi.
Photos
Two passport-size photos are needed to accompany your application. The photos should be full, frontal face shots from the top of the head to the shoulders. They must measure 2-by-2 inches and should be taken against a white or off-white background.
Fees
It costs $70 for a single-entry visa that is good for three months. If you are a applying for a multiple-entry visa, the fee is $150 for six months or $250 for one year.
Proof of Funds
You must be able to prove that you have enough money to sustain you during your visit to Malawi. Copies of travelers' checks or your bank account need to be included in your application package.
Proof of Business
If you are applying for business visa, you will need to provide a letter from your company or sponsor that shows that you are traveling to Malawi on business.
