iPod Battery Replacement
Normal wear and tear will degrade a 30Gb iPod's battery over time. If your battery is dead and needs to be changed, sending the iPod into Apple or a repair shop will be expensive. However, for under $30, you can purchase and install a replacement battery on your own.

Step 1
Turn off the iPod. Toggle the "Hold" switch to the on position (located at top of iPod) so that it doesn't accidentally turn on while opening the case.
Step 2
Place the iPod on a flat surface with the back (metal) facing up. Insert the flat head screwdriver into the seam of the case between the metal backing and the acrylic front. Work your way around the case, carefully prying open each side until the back pops off.
Step 3
Pry the case open an inch or two. Do not open the iPod too much--this will cause delicate wires inside the case to pull out and break. Remove the power connector near the bottom.
Step 4
Remove the battery from the back plate. Carefully place the screwdriver (or nylon pry tool if you have one) underneath the battery and slowly pry it away from the back plate. Soft glue holds the battery in place; be patient when you remove the battery.
Step 5
Insert the new battery in the iPod. Attach the wire from the new battery to the power connector and seat the battery in the same position as the original battery.
Step 6
Close the iPod case and snap the front and back panels together. Toggle the "Hold" switch to the off position. Charge your new battery.
