Cannon beach is one of several popular vacation coastal towns on the northern Oregon coast. While there are many vacation spots to consider on Oregon's coast, including the larger town of Seaside and other destinations such as Manzanita, Gearhart and Rockaway Beach, Cannon Beach has the best mix of beach, nearby parks, small town atmosphere, lodging options, good restaurants and things to do.
The Beach
The most popular attraction in Cannon Beach is the beach itself. The beach is wide and several miles long. The Ecola river cuts through it on the northern end, just before you reach Ecola State Park. A large rock monolith named the "Haystack" sits on the edge of the Pacific Ocean to the south of town, and even farther south you will eventually come upon Arch Cape. This entire stretch is great for long walks, running, building sand castles, looking at creatures in the tidepools during low tide, fly kytes or just laying out in the sun. Few people surf here, but there are good surf spots to the north and to the south, particularly at Oswald West State Park.
Cannon Beach RestuarantsFor informal eating consider Bill's Tavern where they make their own beer or any of the local pizza joints including Fultano's and Pizza 'a Fetta. A great family restaurant is the Lumberyard Rotisserie and Grill. For more formal dining consider JP's at Cannon Beach and The Bistro.
