Some people assume that Aspen recreation is limited to the ski slopes. As much as the four diverse mountains have to offer visitors during the wintertime, Aspen is a wellspring of activity the whole year round. From concerts to meandering hiking trails, this town extends far beyond the realm of skiing.

One of the best things about Aspen is the outdoor paradise it offers visitors. Independence Pass makes way to several hiking and climbing trips that can be enjoyed by everyone. Difficult Campground, at the base of the pass, is perfect for a fun night of car camping. Farther up, Lincoln Creek beckons campers with its river-side camping spots where deep areas of the river await the carefree who want to jump in to the cold mountain waters.

On a cultural side, Aspen is rife with concerts throughout the warmer months. Many of these concerts are played on the mountainsides of Aspen Mountain and Snowmass. A reggae festival on the grassy slopes of Snowmass calls to anyone with a taste for island-inspired sounds crooned by some of the world's most renowned reggae artists. Bring a picnic and friends, and your day will be truly memorable.

Another big musical draw in Aspen is the Jazz Aspen festival. This is an experience not to be missed by any jazz or blues buff. The names that come through Aspen are well-known and talented. These shows are usually dispersed throughout Aspen's various venues from the outdoors to the Wheeler Opera House
