RCI Time Share

The controversy surrounding Resort Condominiums International, and the RCI time share system, is this: they have recently began pushing a switchover to a point-based system. Instead of basing increments of worth on the cash value of the property, the desirability of the property, its seasonal appeal, or any other universal standard, the points seem to have a more arbitrary standard. This has many long-standing members concerned.

On top of that, RCI time share members are being urged to pay fairly large amounts of money to be a part of this points program. The idea is that paying into this system will allow members massive vacation flexibility. These points can also be applied to airline tickets, car rentals, and various other vacation expenses.

The RCI Time Share Controversy
One look at the message boards of any timesharing web site will show you how fiercely many RCI members oppose this new points system. Many RCI members who have bought into the system are admitting, rather sheepishly, that they wish they hadn't. A large number of RCI dissenters are rather loudly proclaiming that they'd rather leave RCI entirely than switch over to points.

The RCI time share controversy is far too complex to boil down to one page. This much, however, can be safely said: the more RCI members who feel this is a rip-off--designed by RCI execs as a means to wrest control away from private timeshare owners, and grub lots of money off the top--the more the power of RCI crumbles. If public opinion is any indication, RCI might want to reconsider this whole point system thing, and I mean that most sincerely.
