That's why it can be a good idea to pick a specific section of San Antonio, and just visit that part.

If this will be your first San Antonio vacation, you almost definitely need to plan it downtown. The downtown area is the key part of San Antonio's tourist draw, with excitement through the day and well into the night. A walk along San Antonio's famous Paseo del Rio is enough to send any tourist into a state of relaxation. This river walk winds through some of the downtown's most exciting areas.

There Are Two Sides to San Antonio
Although downtown holds enough excitement to keep the average tourist entertained for months, there are more relaxing places to visit on your San Antonio vacation. For a glimpse of beautiful architecture, as well as some unique shopping opportunities, the historic districts are a promising destination. Try Monte Vista to see homes built over 100 years ago--the entire district is composed of classic architecture.

There are also several exquisite suburbs to the north of San Antonio, including Windcrest and the King William historic district. These spots can make great day trips--try to start early, you'll probably want to be somewhere else as the city quiets down at night. Hotels in these areas can be more expensive, which is why it's often a good idea to stay in the more affordable Northwest Side and take a short ride to your desired location.
