San Antonio is one of America's biggest cities, both in terms of size and population. As such, seeing all of the sights in this fair city can take more than a week--die-hard vacationers often consider renting an apartment rather than a hotel. This is a good idea, especially if you can find an affordable apartment in the downtown area.
Another section of San Antonio that is full of affordable apartments is the Northwest Side. In fact, most of San Antonio's residents prefer the Northwest Side for affordable housing. However, it's a bit of a drive from downtown, and that can mean sitting through big-city traffic. It can help to plan your vacation around one section of the city, and to plan your lodging accordingly.
San Antonio Suburbs Have Expensive Apartments
For the most part, the affordable apartments in San Antonio are inside the city's borders. While a beautiful spot to visit, the northern suburbs have high rent, and finding an affordable apartment there could pose a problem. It can be a better idea to get an apartment in the affordable northwestern San Antonio, then take a cab to the suburbs for a relaxing day trip.
If you're staying in the northern part of San Antonio, be sure to check out the Monte Vista Historic District. This well-preserved section features architecture from over 100 years ago, and all of the houses have a classic design. Also of historical interest is the King William Historic District, located south of San Antonio's central business district. This area is closer to downtown than it is to the north, however, so plan accordingly.
