Once known as the "Queen City of the Republic of Texas," Jefferson is a small historic town in the northeast of Texas, near Shreveport, Louisiana. It is just a short 3 hour drive through Piney Woods East of Dallas. Jefferson Tx is an uncovered jewel which was established in 1845 as a bustling steamboat port just upriver from New Orleans. Back in the 1800's many a steamboat like the Mittie Stephens navigated up through the Mississippi and Red Rivers across Caddo Lake to the Big Cypress Bayou to the Jefferson Port to trade their wares.

The Caddo Lake is home to the world's largest cypress forest and Spanish moss can be found hanging from the ancient trees. The Caddo Indians believe the lake was actually formed by powerful shaking earth spirits angered at the Caddo Indian Chief. However, the factual basis for the legend is most probably the result from the New Madrid earthquake of 1811. With its maze of channels and breathtaking aquatic scene, it has inspired cinema producers to film many movies in its waterways.
