The Excelsior Hotel
One of the early settlers of Jefferson, Texas was Captain William Perry who built the Excelsior House Hotel and first arrived in 1844 on the first stern-wheeler. The Excelsior House was built in the late 1850's and has thrived ever since. There have been many famous people registered at the hotel including, five United States presidents, Rutherford B. Hayes, Oscar Wilde, and Lady Bird Johnson just to name a few.
