The Eastern Cape of South Africa offers all the best of Africa: beautiful unspoiled beaches, the "Big Five," friendly people, great accommodations, mountains, and two national parks. There is so much to do on the Eastern Cape that you may have a hard time deciding where to begin. If any one area in South Africa has it all, it would have to be the Eastern Cape.
Two national parks offer visitors a glimpse of Africa they have probably only dreamed about. The Mountain Zebra National Park is home to the Big Five--the lion, the leopard, the rhino, the elephant, and the buffalo. It also has zebras, elands, kudos, and many others. The Addo Elephant National Park is home to a herd of over 300 elephants. Guided tours are always available.
Port Elizabeth, the Eastern Cape's largest city, is known as the "friendly city," and has ten great beaches on Algoa Bay. There is plenty to do in Port Elizabeth, from attending the summertime Shakespearean festival to snorkeling to surfing to riding the steam locomotive that runs through town. Mountain biking, hiking, and other outdoor activities are abundant as well in this malaria-free environment.
