Sierra Madre Express

The Sierra Madre Express offers the most luxurious train route in the Copper Canyon region of Mexico. If you're interested in visiting Mexico via a beach resort, this isn't for you. Train travelers will experience breathtaking views of rugged mountains and canyons, virtually inaccessible otherwise. Train travel is really the only way to see this part of the world.

This eight day adventure offers luxurious train and hotel accommodations. You won't actually be on the Sierra Madre Express all the time. You'll be stopping at many colonial villages to shop and hike. Guided tours are included in the package. Shopping isn't just a tourist activity here. You'll get to explore and purchase many of the native handcrafts, such as jewelry, artifacts and musical instruments.

The Sierra Madre Express Can Be Adventuresome!
The actual Sierra Madre Express train can't physically take you to every natural attraction. Buses will take you on bumpy and dusty side trips to spectacular views of canyons and mountains. There are also additional opportunities for horseback riding. You'll find yourself on a great adventure!

Many of the smaller villages are inhabited by native Indians. You'll be getting much more of an inside view into the country. Many of the Tarahumara Indians, for example, speak their own dialect and stay fairly separate from the Spanish-speaking Mexicans. Some of the Indians still live in caves and follow traditional native rites. You'll witness a performance by them on the trip as well as the opportunity to shop for their native handcrafts while watching women make them.
